school in Sprockhövel

primary education

I was born 1954 in Hagen in Westphalia, Germany and raised in a small town named Sprockhövel. This is where I went to school.
Waldstrasse

In the nearby medieaval town of Hattingen I received my first education at the "Gymnasium Waldstrasse".
Ruhr-Universität

university

At the Ruhr-Universität in Bochum I studied mechanical engineering and finished with a diploma (which is equivalent to a master's degree in the US).
von Karman Institute

In 1980 I received another diploma in the field of Aeronautics/Aerospace at the von Karman Instituts für Fluid Mechanik in Bruxelles, Belgium. This qualified to start a carreer as a scientist at the University of Bochum.
ph.d.

university carreer

Since 1980 through 1985 I worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Thermo- and Fluiddynamics at the Ruhr-Unversity of Bochum researching problems in air-conditioning as well as aerodynamics of delta wings. During this time I aquired a whole lot of experience in measurement techniques, signal processing, laser technologies, numerical simulation, computer communications and computer graphics.
I finished my ph.d. in 1985.
DLR

scientist

Since 1985 I am a scientist at DLR, the German Aerospace Center. I worked on the numerical simulation of flows through water power plants. I started to build a workstation cluster including compute server in the Institute of Theoretical Fluid Mechanics of DLR. I was head of a group for software technology. The research done in this group contributes to the areas of computer graphics and visualization and applications on the internet. The group enjoys an international reputation.
German-Dutch Windtunnels

Head of the IT and Measurement-Techniques Section

I just accepted a new challenging job at DNW, the German Dutch Windtunnels. DNW is partly owned by DLR and the Section for IT and Measurement-Techniques at Göttingen is within the DLR site. Find out more on my professional Homepage
